DCS 2010 Lexington: 20 days and counting! |
www.deloreancarshow.com
For those of you that are still trying to decide whether to come or not, remember all the individuals (including Joe a few days ago) who were sorry they missed one of the previous events, as this is truly more than a typical car show. This show / convention is offered only every other year so the next one will not be until 2012.
This year's DeLorean guests will give you a good idea of what happened at Delorean Motor Company, and the stories they will tell will make you laugh, cry, and help you imagine what it was like working for DeLorean. All 5 of these guest worked for DMC - some here in the States and some at the factory.
Ben Byrd who was at Gettysburg gave a very educational and entertaining talk on the DMC-12 from a QC standpoint. This year he is going to be getting into more depth about the car's "known issues", many of which he originally discovered and reported. You will not get this kind of information anywhere else.
Nick Sutton was in charge of purchasing, and some of the things he revealed had many of you asking for more. Last time Nick's talk was limited, as he was an unscheduled speaker. He was brought in to help with the museum, and as any of you that saw him in the museum know, he told stories about any of the 250+ pictures we assembled from the factory. He even found the "fairy tree" you hear talk, about in one of the photos. Nick has two sessions, one a 45 minute presentation of the factory, and the other an informative talk of about 20 minutes that we may schedule on Saturday as one of the tech talks.
Neale Barclay gave a factory workers point of view and was the star of the show, as he had us laughing and crying. Its hard to get these type of guests assembled all at one place, so now is the time to take advantage of what we have to offer. No other convention has ever put together a package of DeLorean related topics and personnel as we have here.
In addition, we welcome two newcomers to the show.
Chris Duvall the QAC central manager, and the "King POG" Jeff Synor who compiled the technical information manual, will share their experiences with you on Friday.
They will be driving VIN 502 to the show courtesy of Tony Swann. This is the same car they used back when they were employed by DMC to do their travel, so come be a part of the DeLorean history.
Of course, who can forget Kathryn DeLorean? She has been to most of our shows and will be back again.
All of the guest are listed on the web site www.deloreancarshow.com and details of each days events are on the daily event page. As before, the final (OK, tentative, subject to change) events schedule will be available for you to print from the web site just prior to the show, or you can pick up a copy at registration. Every show I hear how no one knows what is happening because they did not get a schedule. Schedules are and have always been available at registration, on the web page, and announced at the show, so please stay informed and make sure you have a schedule.
The tech sessions will again be listed on the Saturday events page, will run from about 10AM to 4PM, and are planned to be held in the main tent by the pool where the vendors will be on Saturday. This worked very well in Vegas, so we will use the same format.
For those interested in BTTF, Kevin Pike will do a more detailed presentation of what we enjoyed in Vegas. Andrew Probert wowed us at both Gettysburg and Vegas, and he will be back with new material for you in Lexington.
As a bonus, on Friday just before we kick off the evening's events, Kevin and Andrew will do a special presentation on their roles in the movie Star Trek. While this is not DeLorean-related, and BTTF will be the main topic throughout the week, their creativity seemed to spark your "Vulcan" interest, and was a big hit in Vegas.
Bob Gale again will make his appearance at the show. He has been so gracious to the show in the past and we look forward to seeing him again. Remember, he is not attending to look at your screenplays :-).
All convention registrants will have access to view the museum, the BTTF exhibit, and yes play the BTTF pinball machine. And don't forget to visit the vendor section to get all your parts and see what's new.
There is something here for everyone from diehard DeLorean owners, to wannabe owners, to car enthusiasts, to movie fans. I know of no other car club or organization the size of DCS where you will find an event with what we offer. If you do, tell me about it, as I want to attend!
Don't forget to sign up for the bus tour on Friday, the group photo, and register to have your car judged. For those who are concerned, don't be intimidated about the judging, it is a fun informative experience. (OK, for those of you who want to be intimidated, enter the Concours Competition.)
If you have not bought raffle tickets yet, or would like to purchase more, we encourage you to do so. It is not necessary to be at the show to win, and thanks for your support even if you can not attend the show. See www.deloreancarshow.com for details about this year's car, and http://rafflecar.deloreancarshow.com to purchase tickets. Don't miss the opportunity to own a DeLorean for $50.00!!
As always, this is your event, it is you that makes the show a success, so we hope to see you all there.
Facility reminders:
The Marriott is a first class hotel, and is clearly the best resort we have ever stayed at, and I am sure you will be amazed at the value we are offering at this show on room rates.
The management will be offering a special breakfast buffet package to DCS attendees, but you need to pick up your tickets at the time of registration to receive the discounted price. I can say from personal experience this is one of the best breakfast buffets you will find.
The food here is excellent, and for those of you coming on Thursday you will be treated to a great pig roast. Just remember to dress Jimmy Buffett or Hawaiian style. After the pig roast there are cruise-in's at Hooters and in the Hotel parking lot.
In order to meet our contract commitment, we need to fill 30 more rooms. So even if you have booked a room elsewhere, please change your reservation to the Marriott. In addition to being able to enjoy the complete DCS experience, you will be helping to keep the costs down at future car shows by staying at the host hotel. Book on-line at http://hotel.deloreancarshow.com or call the hotel directly at 859-288-6121 and ask for Marian Spencer. Remember to identify yourself as attending the DCS Convention to get the special rate.
Last but certainly not least, the Bricklin people will be with us along with some friends from the GTO club, the British car club, and some of the local cruise-ins.
This will be one of the most fun events you will ever attend so don't miss it.
If I have not sold you on this you must be driving a, a, well I don't know what you would be driving.
So come to the show, support your DeLoreans, and buy a raffle ticket.
Thank you for your support
